Some friend of mine complaint about the wig, “The lace fronts are stiff and the edges have a way of leaving tiny scratches right at the hairline. I was hoping someone might know of a way to soften the lace or somehow prevent it from scratching. It seems from my wig shopping, that many expensive wigs have this lace front feature. I have purchased a few recently since I lost most of my hair very quickly in the last few months due to alopecia. At the wig shop they trimmed the lace for me, but the problem is still there. ” What can we do to soften lace on wig? There are some tips below.
1.Use tape
What I do with the stiff lace fronts is to use tape. I have to use tape to keep it on. I use the lace front tape around the front perimeter, and the lace front rests on that so that it doesn’t scratch (Tips: How to Use Wig Clips?)
2.Use baking soda
Maybe a water softening filter is a little expensive and not easy to get, If you aren’t able to install a water softening filter in your home, a baking soda bath can be water-softening in a tub. By performing a soak on your lace front wig about every three weeks, your hair will be bouncy, soft and keep its shine. You may be surprised how long this routine can extend the life of your lace front, some owners have reported keeping units in factory condition for two years!
Aside from the bounce, texture and shine, the baking soda bath helps loosen tap residue on the poly edges of units too. You can actually see residue left from your hair products float up to the top of the baking soda bath when performing an overnight soak.
Here is the recipe for a baking soda bath:
- Pour ½ to ¾ cup of baking soda into a large Rubbermaid container;
- Use at least a 3 quart tub if you’re soaking a full cap unit, or 1.5 to 2 quart sizes will work for smaller units;
- Using water about as warm as you can still put your hand in, fill the container. Make sure you don’t put in so much water; or the tub will overflow when you add your hair unit, but don’t put the unit in yet.
- Stir the mixture until the baking soda is fully dissolved.
- Brush your lace front and place it in the mixture, making sure it is fully immersed in the solution.
- Place a cover over the container to ensure pets and children won’t get into it, and leave the unit to soak for at least four hours. If you can, leave the lace front unit to soak overnight.
- When the soaking time is completed, remove the unit and rinse it as thoroughly as possible. Once you are certain the unit is free of any residue, carefully wash it with a clarifying shampoo. Rinse it again, and apply an intensifying conditioner.
3.Use vinegar
I wash in 1c. vinegar and warm water in a tub. Then I wash in Dove moisturizing shampoo let that sit for 5 min. Rinse and spray my Apogee leave in conditioner. I did this for wig felt hard even when I took it out the package but now it looks real nice.
